Home Theater
Sebago Furniture specializes in developing pieces for Home Theater systems. There are many types of entertainment furniture pieces on the market. Generally they are general purpose in design and do not take into consideration things like cooling, power and ventilation. I have 30 years experience as an electrical engineer in system design and have done scores of designs for the commercial market. Housing a home theater system is not simply enclosing your components into a nice piece of furniture. In order to preserve your expensive component’s life and to obtain proper operation one needs to be aware of power, cooling, ventilation and noise control. These features are taken into consideration on each piece we make. Special items like rollout equipment racks, Lazy Susan’s, infrared control units and power management can be provided for your system. Items like grills and glass door fronts can be added as well. Please contact us with your particular needs and Sebago Furniture will be happy to work with you on your customized Home Theater entertainment system.
Ventilation
In order to preserve your component’s life and to obtain proper operation you need to be aware of ventilation, cooling and power. These items are taken into consideration on each piece I design for home theater. Heat is a leading cause of early failure of electronic components. Naturally semiconductors like transistors, diodes and integrated circuits must operate in certain temperature limits to maintain operation. Heat however can accelerate or cause complete failure of the component. Capacitors used in your system particularly for the power supply and audio output stages must also operate in acceptable temperature ranges. Capacitors can be very susceptible to rapid aging in abnormally high temperature environments. This is why good cooling and ventilation are needed in today’s home theater enclosure and furniture. The designs I do will take your components into consideration for the amount of heat they will dissipate. Ventilation can be accomplished either passively or with active components, like fans and blowers. Based on the type of components to be installed and their location, Sebago Furniture can make recommendations on the type of ventilation. In order to best serve you, we will need to know the equipment type, power used and the environment in which the furniture will be placed.
Cooling Systems
Sebago Furniture can provide as an option cooling systems that can be incorporated into the furniture design. These cooling systems using either fans or blowers can be placed to provide optimal ventilation for your home theater equipment. Careful design practices can be used to maximize the cooling and minimize the noise by products of the fans. Power
The power supplied to the typical home can seriously damage your sensitive and expensive home theater equipment. Power emanating from your outlets contains more than just the plain 120 volts. Typically it is common to see if viewed on an oscilloscope, large electrical spikes, known as transient pulses. These transients can reach hundreds or thousands of volts. These transient pulses only last for a brief period of time. These transients are created by a large number of disturbances found on the electrical grid, even within your home. Events like turning on or off large inductive devices like motors are a common source. Lightning striking a line in the area can also induce dangerous and devastating transients. These transients inject large voltage spikes on to the power lines and your expensive equipment can be damaged by these transients or at best effect the operation of your equipment. The key to removing these transients or suppressing them to safer levels is to filter them.

Housing your Home Theater components in a cabinet may require you to have remote Infrared (IR) access to control your equipment. Also if you equipment is not in direct line of sight in your home theater room you will require an IR repeater to control your equipment. Sebago Furniture can help with this problem. Sebago Furniture can supply IR repeater and control units for managing multiple components. In addition we can provide power management and power protection equipment to prevent dangerous power transients from disrupting or damaging your system.
